UGLY IN THE MORNING

Formed:
Formed in 1999 from the ashes of an earlier incarnation (also called Ugly in the Morning but actually acoustic guitars / vocal harmony group). The earlier Ugly in the Morning played several pub gigs like three months at Moods, almost a year at Karma at Boat Quay and on and off slots (where available) at Off Quay at Boat Quay. The original founding members decided that playing covers in a pub was not very fulfilling and the decision to write original music in a different format was made.

Currently:
From its formation in 1999 till now, the band has been busy writing, recording and performing our songs at various gigs.

The most notable was the 2001 Yamaha Band Alert Competition where we were finalists and not only did our drummer win the “Best Drummer” Award, our band also garnered honourable mention from the judges.

In 2002, we played two music festivals at OD’s Backstage Music Bar at Stadium Walk. We played at the one in July and was invited back in September.

In Dec 2002, we played at the Music Festival “Through the Ears 2002”, organized by Remy of Trippy Factory and held at Jams the Club at Clarke Quay.

Most recently, we played for “Fiesta at the Ridge” held at and organized by NUS as well as the rock festival organized by Sheares Hall and held at the Youth Park. Both were held last month in March.

Members:
Vocals Eric Lee
Vocals Neal Warren Cooke
Guitars David Melvyn Baptista
Guitars Noel Ong
Bass Clement Yang
Drums Tan Boon Gee

Our sound:
We play an eclectic mix of funk, blues and rock with liberal doses of R&B/soul with emphasis on vocal harmonies and kicking funk rhythms. Please note that our music is not very heavy or hard (it is NOT metal) and our slow songs are very mellow. Finally, even though it seems like we have some jazz influences, the music that we play is
definitely not mainstream jazz.
